My Intro to Wealthy Affiliate
I have been a member of Wealthy Affiliate since October 2017. While I may be somewhat of a newbie, I certainly have become a real enthusiast and advocate of Wealth Affiliate in this short period of time. One reason for that is because my venture into online marketing and businesses did not start here. I jumped feet (and wallet) first into another online training program, then another, and another, and, well, another.
Yes, it’s true. I tend to suffer from shiny object syndrome. I’m impatient and want to learn things fast and do everything now and at once. One thing this “exploration” of online business opportunities convinced me of is that there is some real and serious money to be made online. I have even made a bit already. The key is finding the right platform to get there, and for me, that key was Wealthy Affiliate.
If you’re like me, you probably did some research on the internet to look for reviews about Wealthy Affiliate. That may even be how you found this one. And, in fact, that is how I found Wealthy Affiliate, through a review. I decided to do my own review of Wealthy Affiliate at this point in my experience since I suspect there are many people like me out there that are just starting, or who have started and stopped and jumped around trying to find the right fit. That can cause one to doubt the opportunity and view any new online marketing program with suspicion. I hope this review will alleviate any such concerns about Wealthy Affiliate.
Wealth Affiliate Overview
So, what is it, and why would someone want to join? Wealthy Affiliate is a comprehensive online training program that teaches you how to build and grow an online business and make money by promoting other people’s products as an affiliate. In other words, you don’t have to create and sell your own products, although you certainly can. Wealthy Affiliate also provides all the necessary tools to run an online business, such as website building, WordPress hosting, domain name hosting, research, engagement, and tracking tools, content creation, and more. In a nustshell, this is how it works:
The company has been around since 2005 and now has over 800,000 entrepreneurial members in its community all over the world. The 2 creators, Kyle and Carson, are actively involved in the community and are part of a larger team that works on design, programming, technology, marketing, and training. They continually add to and enhance the efficiency and value of Wealthy Affiliate to its members and the end consumer.
The 5 Main Reasons I Joined and Remain a Member of Wealthy Affiliate
Below are the 5 primary reasons I joined and remain an enthusiastic member of Wealthy Affiliate. I also discuss some of the concerns (for me, anyway) about Wealthy Affiliate.
1. Affordability – You Don’t Have to Spend a Fortune to Make a Fortune
As I mentioned above, I started out my online business venture with other training programs and platforms. A couple of them required a rather substantial upfront investment, i.e., around $2,500. Others were on a monthly subscription basis, that ranged from $47-$97. While most provided some excellent training, most of the hosting and website tools were at added cost. I also attended introductory webinars of other training programs or e-commerce platforms, just to check them out. Invariably, after all the hype and promises of making quick fortunes, and so-called extra free bonuses, the initial investment again would be in the $1,900+ range.
In contrast, Wealthy Affiliate is one of the most reasonable and affordable platforms to get one started. Hard to beat FREE. That’s right, free. Unlike any other program I’ve experienced, Wealthy Affiliate will allow a member to join under the “Starter” option, which is no cost for 7 days. It includes the first phase of training, all community support, 2 websites, and most of the tools someone would need to get started and to check-out the Wealthy Affiliate experience. The Premium membership is still only $49/month and includes so much more. You can save even more if you opt for the yearly membership subscription at $359/year, or $29.92/month. Below is a chart comparing the Starter membership with Premium Membership.
I took advantage of the Starter option, and then full Premium membership for only $19 the first month. By the end of the first month as a Premium member, it was a no-brainer to keep going and, before the next billing period, I took advantage of the yearly subscription. I was in to stay!
2. Training – The Comprehensive, Continuing Education that Keeps on Giving
The training in Wealthy Affiliate is phenomenal, whether you are just getting started or are a seasoned internet affiliate marketer. There is a separate Certification Course consisting of 5 levels that cover getting started, building traffic-producing websites, making money, maximizing social engagement, and achieving maximum success through content creation.
There are separate, weekly live video classes, which are recorded and available to view at any time at your own pace. They cover a very wide range of topics, such as Facebook, YourTube, Google Adwords, Amazon Affiliate Program, Pay Per Click Advertising, creating your own webinars, SEO, Niche Selection, Audience Targeting, Content Creation, Keyword Search, and so much more, and it is ongoing. New live video classes are created throughout the year.
There are separate “Classrooms” for the following specific topics:
Each classroom is divided into 4 sections, Q&A’s (questioned asked and answered by community members or trainers), Tutorials, Video, and Courses that address this particular topic.
The amount of education and training within Wealthy Affiliate, available at your fingertips at any time is, indeed, impressive, and actually quite overwhelming.
3. Website Development – Everything You Need in One Place to Build, Host, Maintain and Grow Your Online Business
From within Wealthy Affiliate, there are all the tools you need to create and maintain your business website, at no additional cost, other than yearly domain name registration. These include the following:
- Website Builder
- WordPress Hosting
- Domain Name Search and Registration
- Website Performance Tools (SiteRubix)
- Website Engagement Platform (SiteComments)
- The Hosting Platform
- SiteContent Writing Platform
- Keyword Research Tool
Premium members are able to create up to 50 sites, with unlimited email accounts. Below is a comparison chart between Wealthy Affiliate WordPress Hosting and Other Providers.
Clearly, Wealthy Affiliate gives you a lot of bang for your buck where website hosting is concerned.
4. Community Support – Caring, Sharing Members and Owners that Have your Back
For me, one of the best parts of Wealthy Affiliate is its community of members who share, interact, answer questions, motivate, and offer their own training, which Wealthy Affiliate encourages and facilitates through various avenues. Each member has his or her own blog. New blog posts are shared with members who have connected.
There is a live Chat Room where you can go anytime and ask questions or get an answer to a question in real time.
As mentioned above, there is a Q&A section to every classroom where members have posted questions and answers.
Premium members have direct contact with the founders, Kyle and Carson, and to our live trainer, Jay. I can confirm from my own experience they have responded directly to me, either by private email or in response to a question in the Q&A sections.
Members are encouraged and incentivized to create and share their own training tutorials, and they do!
More than just added help and training, interaction with fellow Wealthy Affiliate members provides a lot of encouragement, motivation, and inspiration.
5. Ambassador Program – A Clever, Effective Way to Encourage Member Participation in the Community
Wealthy Affiliate has what it calls the Ambassador Program. As Wealthy Affiliate explains, “An Ambassador is someone that is an active, helpful participant of the community here at Wealthy Affiliate. They naturally engage with others. They help others. They ask questions when they need help. They are an active entity within the community.”
As part of this program, there is an internal ranking system that ranks a member based on a complex algorithm that takes into consideration the following:
- Helper – How much you help and how timely it is within the community
- Creator – Do you blog, do you create discussions, do you create training
- Activity – How active are you within the community, do you leave comments, do you interact with new members
- Overall Member Rank – Based on a combination of the above
A member’s rank fluctuates daily depending on the extent the member participates in the community. Members that are ranked in the top 12 are Ambassadors. Besides just the personal satisfaction of achieving such status, there are incentives for which Wealthy Affiliate creates an annual budget. The whole ranking system is a clever and effective way to get members to participate actively in the community and to “pay it forward,” which is consistent with Wealthy Affiliates’ mission.
Wealthy Affiliate Downside
Too much of a good thing? Not all training programs and online business platforms are perfect. However, if I could fault Wealthy Affiliate for anything, it’s that there is so much to offer, it can be overwhelming. This is especially true for someone like me who tends to bounce off walls and wants to know and do everything now. However, if a member follows the step-by-step training and completes the tasks as you go along, it all starts to make sense and fall into place. It also helps to master the search and help sections, which generally take you right to the source or sources to answer a question or get the help you need.
Community participation can be a big distraction. The ranking system, while effective as a tool to encourage participation in the community can also be a big distraction if you let it. It’s too easy to spend too much time blogging, answering questions, commenting on posts, reading other members’ profiles, creating tutorials, participating in the live chat room, rather than spending time more productively on your own training and developing your business.
Getting to the earning money part is a slow, gradual process. Wealthy Affiliate is not a get rich scheme. It focuses on creating content and ranking in Google and other search engines (Bing, Yahoo) in order to get free traffic from organic searches and to create a long-term sustainable business. I came from other training that relied on paid advertising to get traffic, such as Facebook ads. While my Facebook ads were effective in getting traffic, and even some sales, the return on investment was way in the red.
After my first training course with Wealthy Affiliate, I started whipping through the lessons and different levels to find out when and how I would start making money. You do, indeed, start getting training on other, faster paid means of getting traffic. However, I finally realized the importance of and agreed with Wealthy Affiliates’ emphasis on first creating a solid foundation and a content-rich website that will create traffic and keep it coming back, which in turn, creates credibility, trust, and loyalty among consumers and subscribers who are then more likely to buy from you.
So, I set aside my previous training and notions and went back to where I left off in my lessons. I am now diligently going through them step-by-step and completing the tasks before I proceed. That is tough for an impatient person like me. If you are hoping to start making money, and a lot of it, instantly, and you have a large nest egg to invest in paying for traffic, Wealthy Affiliate may not be for you. That being said, I am working at a slower pace then some other members may be. I am sure the more time and work you put into developing your online business with Wealthy Affiliate, the faster it will be that you start earning money from it.
Wealthy Affiliate is a membership-based platform. While not really a downside, those who join should be aware that all the tools and resources of Wealthy Affiliate, such as domain and website hosting, website tools, and even commissions paid to affiliates of Wealthy Affiliate, are dependent upon remaining a member. Nevertheless, if a member, for whatever reason ever decides to quit, members can backup and save their websites and transfer domain names and hosting to another provider. They also have the option of leaving everything with Wealthy Affiliate, at least for a while (1-2 years or so), in case they should ever decide to come back, in which case, they can pick up where they left off.
Honestly, I really haven’t found anything about Wealthy Affiliate that I deem a real problem or downside. I’m still new at it, however. I invite you to return to this review from time to time, which I’ll be updating as I move forward, to check on my progress. And if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to post them in the comment section below. I’ll respond as soon as I can and help you in any way as best I can.
Wealthy Affiliate is the real deal, a legitimate, comprehensive and affordable platform for learning, building, running, and making money from an online affiliate marketing business and even an e-commerce store. The fact you can join for free just to check it out and get your business up and running makes it completely risk-free. I’m sure glad I found it, and I’m sure you will, too.
